Diddy was expecting to work out a deal with the Feds to be under house arrest. That, I believe, is why he was in New York in the first place -- the Southern District. However, things went upside down for Diddy when it became apparent that the Feds/Court had no intention of offering house arrest for Diddy. He was going to be arrested and detained in the Brooklyn lock-up. Who knows? Had Diddy suspected what the deal was going to be, he could have tried to make a break for it by absconding as a fugitive.

As one psychologist put it: "He (Diddy) was so accustomed to getting what he wanted, that it never occurred to him that he could go to prison for life."
