Neil De Grasse Tyson said that space exploration is like cavemen leaving their caves. If no one did that and only focussed on cave problems, where would we be now? Moving onwards as a species has the benefit of dragging the less fortunate forwards. As new technology is developed at the bleeding edge, previous "bleeding edge" technology is trickling down to help more and more people.

Just imagine this. We never got urge to go beyond this blue atmosphere. We never discover the uses of communication sats and never discover things such as internet (and memes). Just think what we somehow could achieve by going multiplanetary species

"I want to go see what's on the other side of that mountain."
"Oh, but there's so much that needs work in this cave we live in. Isn't this focus of yours kind of selfish?"

The most important thing is the survival of our species and existence, with the earth not going to last forever and the more immediate threat of a nuclear war/ asteroid, super volcano eruption and other threats, it is important thay we advance our technology and space travels to explore the universe. Anyone who thinks space travel is a waste of money isn't intelligent

Y'know all the failed rockets?
Hungry kids in Africa could've ate that.

"The most important thing is the survival of our species and existence"
If that's what you believe, then you should support all governments investing all they got into renewable energy, electric cars, building electric charging stations everywhere, carbon capture & battling anthropogenic global warming (AGW).

I've come to think that space exploration is a waste of time and money for 3 reasons: 1) 'Space exploration' assumes that we are not already traveling through space. What is earth but a body of mass traveling through space? 2) The idea that anyone has even safely gone into space is a myth. What I mean is - in order to send someone into 'space' it is first necessary to create vacuum-sealed containers made of earth and containing gases, minerals and solids of earth for that person to survive. Even moonwalking needs a space suit - a small container - pumped full of earth-made oxygen. As soon as a person truly enters space I imagine they die pretty quickly. So, as far as I can tell, 'space travel' is about sending container after container of earth to allow a select few people inside to get a nice view, and then they all come back to earth? It does seem shallow and pointless. 3) 'Space exploration' seems to put physical contact above perception, but that doesn't make sense. We can perceive further than we can reach, and unless we can invent some form of teleportation or 'faster than light' method of travel that will always be the case. I'm all for watching the stars and listening to the universe, but this weird need to go out there and stick a flag on it is ridiculous. The American flag on the moon will very likely outlive America, and it serves us right that it should. I'm all for satellites and maybe resource-seeking probes, but there's no good reason to send someone out to space. It's grasping at straws. We're all going to die, our universe as we know it will eventually die, and I feel we should come to terms with that and strive to make the most of things here rather than chase after a fantasy. If Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos could come to terms with that then I think we'd be living in a better world, but I feel that they have come to believe that their immense wealth should translate into immense longevity, but it doesn't work like that, and even if it did, the longer we live the greater and more horrifying the shadow of death will become. Or if I'm missing something please tell me.

Profound arguments! Thanks for the video. I’ve much enjoyed that. Now I know what to tell in an argument.

You know how Trump would have won my respect and the respect of every person on earth with one swell swoop? Instead of increasing the defence budget from 500 to 700 billion, he should have increased NASA budget from 20 billion to 40 billion.

Great video, thanks for creating it. As a space enthusiast I get asked that question a lot. Now I have some great answers!

Mailing the brocolli! Haha! When my mom would say stuff like that, I would imagine a conveyer belt transporting food across the ocean. I was like - Sure, those kids can have my crust! :)
