Thank you. I just lost my girl. A Pitty and best friend about a month ago. My fault cause i left her outside in Central Florida on accident over night. Ive seen these huge toads outside my front door not thinking anything of it. Im new to Central FL. I work a lot and must have dosed off on the couch. I woke up late the next day. She would always let me know when its time to eat in the morning. She was my alarm clock for the last few years. Found her cold and dead with stuff coming out of her mouth. Im not sure what took her life. A lot of people mention toads or frogs. She was the type that chased anything that moved. However it was my fault i left her out all night. I say this for you to learn from my mistakes. My girl was with me 24 hours a day for years just to wake up and find her gone. Im always so protective of her but most of us have demanding jobs. I dont mean to grovel. I miss this dog so much. Take it serious.

Thank you so much! I spotted a toad in my yard just before I let my dogs out earlier tonight. I took a pic & proceeded down the false information rabbit whole and out of fear found the terd n Chucked him in a trash can outside. I couldn't sleep, I despise fear based reactions especially when it comes to our FL ecosystem, so back to Google and YouTube I went searching for concise info to ID the little fella to find I was wrong! based on your video (& further follow up) it was not a Bufo. I love my dogs but I respect all life and it's purpose. I really appreciate your info, it was weighing heavily on me not being sure. I happily released him.

That is a female, she has a smoother back, the males are bumpier.... They come with all types of patterns and colors...
I live in NPR, and I have a female under my porch, and a male on my garden, and under the brush by the fence, my neighbor has a black male in her garden. These toads are great predators for bugs, birds, spiders, snakes, mice... even their own species. like other cane toads.

it is a Rhinella Marina, toad from South America, mainly from Brazil, my country, there are many of these here, The common name of the species here is Cururu Toad

Cane Toad (Rhinella Marina) Is native to central/south america. Colorado River toad (incilius alvarius) also known as Bufo Alvarius is native to southwestern USA. Please don't mistake the two, Colorado River Toad is losing its fight with humanity.

They’re not considered to be in the Genus Bufo anymore, they’re considered to be in the Genus Rhinella now.

The best way to know the difference between southern and cane toads without knowing the difference in appearance is to look at how the toad is acting because cane toads will sit up like a dog when they are hunting and they are much bigger than southern toads and are much fatter, and when they see you as a threat they try and lay flat against a corner if they can find one.

Southern toads eye's are much closer together than cane toads and don't get as big and will normally only try and escape you, they also have white belly's while cane toads have spotted belly's

Just so everyone knows, psychonauts included - Bufo is a genus that covers all toads. So when talking about smoking bufo I know it’s slang for 5-meo, but Bufo is the genus of all toads in general.
