Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo asserts that Sushma Swaraj, who was then the Indian foreign minister, informed him that India was preparing an escalatory response and that Pakistan was preparing a nuclear attack in response to the surgical strike on Balakot in February 2019. These statements were stated by Pompeo in his most recent book, "Never Give an Inch: Fighting for America I Love," which was published on January 24.

As per the Pak claims and official narrative, the Indians airforce only destroyed some trees and bushes.
