I had a friend that paid $30k+ to have his wife smuggled into america by the chinese triads. He paid them until his death last year from a fentanyl overdose. He lived his entire life working to pay off the triads just to have his wife leave him during his struggles with addiction. The American Dream. RIP homie

I'm Ecuadorian and what this guy is trying to say is that chinese immigrants plan this kind of illegal immigration for years. Most of them open business in Ecuador to save enough money for the coyotero (smuggler) to arrange the trip. I've gone to Chinese restaurants a couple times to realize that they suddenly vanish after one or two years of being open. These people (Chinese mafia helped by mexican cartels and ecuadorians gangs) aren't amateurs and have very complex schemes of illegally immigration and probably human trafficking.

As of July 1st 2024, Ecuador stopped the Visa waiver program for PRC passport holders. This route is no longer feasible.

I know some people who have done this personally, and it’s not worth it. The ptsd and trauma front the dangerous circumstances that they’ve witness is gruesome.

I understand the need for a better life but this method is far too dangerous.

They’ve seen people getting burned alive and cut up etc. Now they’ll picture things that aren’t there and feel paranoid. It’s just way dangerous

I know a Vietnamese family who did this. Paid $100k (family got out a loan from loan sharks). Get to the border, purposely get detained- border security asked if they got any relatives in the u.s… wife and kid was able to leave the detention center first and go to stay with the relatives. The guy had to stay at detention center longer… he was released and able to go to the relatives and has to wear a security band on his leg to be tracked. Overall, he said easiest experience ever to get in the states- minus the fees his parents paid to loan shark. Now he has papers to legally stay and is working to pay off the loan… they are making a killing from working in nail store.
