Paradise | #Jamuary2023 | Day 02 | Preparing for Voltage Control Amsterdam

Here we go again. Day 02 is still easy, but again, I am not forcing myself to make 31 videos this month. On day 08 I'll be performing at Paradiso Amsterdam - the Voltage Control Amsterdam event where I'll join seven modular friends from the Netherlands. It's like Paradise :).

I am close to finishing my live rig so it's a good opportunity to film a dry run and explain a few choices. Building a live rig is not easy if you want to bring 500 HP and only have space for 208. With five days to go I guess my case will change before it's working for me. After recording this video and giving it lots of tries, it all went well until this morning. So I am getting Elements back in the case and record a Morphagene 'thing' into BitBox. The current set of modules is Elements, Ghost, BitBox, Plaits, Erica Drum Mixer, Messor, WMD Pro out, Weslicht Performer, Ground Control with 20 HP of free space.
Videos make all this look easy, but it's not. It' can be a wonderful nightmare too.

Thanks, it's really interesting to see your live modular setup in such detail 👍

ROFL sorry for stating the obvious but "Done. Well, almost. I think I need a bigger case." pretty much sums up the whole Eurorack experience... <3
Happy New Year!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I really learned something from this and will try to work with different scales in different patterns on my SQ64.Your storytelling (both visual and musical) is stunning and very well prepared!

CALL FOR ACTION ! share the video as possible, to give our friend Cinematic Laboratory 10k followers at the end of January (9970 now). It's the most inspiring stuff I ever seen in modular synthesis music. Thank you for this.

"I think the future is A.I, and modular is the rebellion". INDEED! I've always considered modular to be a building-blocks voice against the status quo of pre-packed "creative" restrictions. Whatever that may be at any given flavor of the week 'trendy moment'. Though some consider modular "trendy" because it is getting a lot of attention, it still engenders INDIVIDUALITY as a unique "sum of its parts" expression. Which is ultimately, its own reward. Oh, and... awesome jam. :)

Very nice sounds, also the Westlicht is very helpful here.
Also the compressor does it's job (at least from what you show). I'm still in doubt, 'Librae Legio', 'Messor' or 'Golden Master' for total end of chain? (or any else in that € range?)

2:56 to 4:18 that was sounding nice! Love how the tempo slowly increased. I have no idea what you was doing (new to modular lol) but again great sounds!

Can the Westlicht be triggered and used as an envelope (or for that matter an LFO)? We already had a Westlicht/NerdSeq discussion, but I was just thinking over some problems in my rack and thought maybe the Westlicht could solve some of this.

Great video, always inspires me to rethink what I'm doing, and what I 'could' do.

I’m an improvisator on « traditional » instruments (mostly accordion and guitar) and I discovered synths and modular during the pandemic. I am still struggling to find ways to be able to change the course of the music instantly like I can do on an instrument. Be able to let disruptive event change the narrative of the storytelling, let’s say. Having rythms appear and disappear is a good way to do that. Changing from drone to melody and so on. But every new strategy to create contrast is a good one!

Can't expresse enough my gratitude for the quality of your work .I have a question as I never found the answer but how could you use several sequencers at the same time and have the same clock for all of them . For instance, if You use Hapax and René all together, or in the video the 2 sequencers mentioned . Is Pam's new workout mandatory ? any alternatives ? Many thanx to the community
and I, truly believe, in your writing mentioning AI vs Modular. Thank You Robert for the Hope

The audio at 10:00, .. especially gorgeous .. "I think I need a bigger case." .. hmm .. maybe, you're just speaking in jest .. but anyway, I've heard this said, before .. said it, myself ..

Do you sidechain any sounds to the kick? Or is this all done by slamming the kick into the Messor?
