Man!! Soilwork is so good. They're on a different level. Great songwriting that vary from one another. The Halo Effect are masters of melodeath

Nightrage's album really is good. Catchy as hell but still incredibly crankin'. Didn't care much for their last album 'wolf to man' but this is very memorable.🤪😁

Love the nightrage shoutout! I still spin "a new disease is born" after stumbling upon it soon after it released. Need to check the new stuff out. Great list!

Thanks for the heads up on The Halo Effect. With Mikael as frontman, It sounds a little like an extra Dark Tranquility record - and for me that is a very good thing!

Precious video, thanks man! My school is Thrash Metal, I was a drummer for several bands of the style over 35 years, but when I met In Flames in 2000, my musical concepts changed radically. Melodic Death Metal became my musical reference. But I confess that I haven't listened to bands of this style for a long time - the exception was Soilwork - and thanks to your video, I saw a range of very good options. Very cool!

An Abstract Illusion's album is the prefect example of the sum is greater than it's parts. While the album has great songs, it is when you listen to the album as a whole that it really hits you how great it is. If anyone has given a song a shot and went, "meh, it's fine." I implore you to listen to it from start to finish. It's a ride you won't forget.

the halo effect, soilwork, allegaeon are all really amazing albums. Wolfhearts seems to be a underrated masterpiece by plenty. A Abstract Illusion oh my what a great album as a whole.

Venom Prison Erebos is hands down my favourite album of the year. I like the judicious use of clean vocals by Larissa and in fact I think they could do to add more. She is an absolute beast on vocals and conveys emotional aspects of the songs brilliantly.

I just listened to Soilwork's Övergivenheten again this morning and I'll just second everything you said. Extraordinary album.
I haven't heard the Nightrage or Brymir which I will remedy ASAP.

An Abstract Illusion. This is AOTY easily in metal overall. Actually one of the best albums I’ve ever listened to

Really cool list man 🤘😎🤘. Miseration caught me by surprise too. Definitely a new fan here. Aeternam album was fantastic. They added some symphonic elements on this album and I really dig them. The last track is a straight masterpiece. From the albums that didnt't appear I really recommend "Aconitum" by Perpetual Night (Quite diverse album in the vein of Insomnium) and "Ayam" by Disillusion (lot of genres mixed here. I would compare them to An Abstract Illusion)

I saw Halo Effect live this past summer when they toured with Amon Amarth and Machine Head.

Really good album, with one of my all time favourite vocalists as lead singer (I also saw Stanne with Dark Tranquillity earlier in the year and he was incredible then too).

Sweet list. I honestly haven't been listening too much melodic death metal this year with how much black metal, doom metal, and emo I've been listening to. That being said there were a couple of melodic death metal albums I did really enjoy this year (no order):
1. Allegaeon - Damnum
2. Venom Prison - Erebos
3. Persefone - Metanoia: progressive death metal meets melodic death metal from the only band I've ever heard of from Andorra.
4. Veriteras - Shadow of Death: Seattle band with a blackened edge whose debut album sounds like In Flames & Dark Tranquility with a dash of Dissection and Enslaved.
5. Morbikon - Ov Mournful Twilight: Though sitting squarely in the melodic black metal camp, this supergroup of Land Phil and Witte of Municipal Waste and Vreth of Fintroll have many melodic death metal elements in their sound.
