I've been in the avian field for nearly 35yrs now. And have worked "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey and Budgies to Macaws. Corvids which comprise of; Ravens, Crows, Rooks, Jackdaws, Magpies, Jays, & Nutcrackers are EXTREMELY intelligent birds capable of human speech and figuring out very complex puzzles. Particularly Ravens and Crows. My theory here is this Raven is either using a natural sound which they have a myriad of croaks, gronks, caws, and other guttural calls. As well as one's that aren't typically heard such as here in this video. Or it is mimicking a sound it "LEARNED" either from another bird/animal or artificial sound. Either scenario are highly probable in the case of how smart these birds truly are. In fact, they are so smart. That i once was on an expedition over in Norway and observed a Common Raven learning how too fish...!!! Yes you heard that right folk FISH...!!! He had studied this ice fisherman for weeks and he left his ice hole alone one day. The Raven decided it was time and flew down took the fishing line in it's beak. Held down one end with it's foot. While bobbing the line up and down in it's beak. And then YES the unthinkable became a reality. He PULLED UP A FISH...!!! To say i was amazed would be a gross understatement. However, it just proves how intelligent these fascinating and beautiful birds are too me.

I witnessed a raven today on the street lamp post making those exact sounds as well as the wing and neck movements. I was astounded to find this video because I live in Canada.
