Most of the time wrought iron can be brought hotter without fear of carbon burning so don’t be afraid to get it up there. I know it helps my welds stick

When you fix the cut in two, add iron shavings to the borax and then you can forge weld at a lower heat. Blacksmith from Williamsburg va taught me this. Watched him weld two pieces together and they were barely orange. It blow everyone's mind 🤯
