I wold argue that the best concept albums are the ones, like Dark Side, where there is clearly a thematic thread, musically and lyrically, but left vague enough so that the listener can insert their own thoughts, feelings and experiences. I think this is why this album is still so beloved: everyone who listens can see part of themselves reflected back; like it was created for, or speaking directly to, the listener.

I drive a truck and this album is perfect for getting on the road before dawn.
It's just perfect . Driving as the sun rises and Eclipse just coming on
A joint would cap it off but gotta keep the job...
Wish is also excellent for that and I also throw Animals in the rotation.
Been listening to these albums since release.
Musically it's great to be a boomer.
We had the best ever recorded.

Now this is how you make a "Making of..." video. 10 minutes of pure information. No "Please subscribe and like", no fluff, etc...

Just 10 minutes of solid info. Some interesting stuff, like condensers on the guitars, a Neumann U-87 on snare? Very cool.

When we were in Abbey Road late last year I touched the DSOTM console and then we played Great Gig. It was pretty much a religious experience.

The "clock sound" in TIME is actually Roger Water's palm-muted (strings) bass.
very clever.

I guess they got all these weird ideas because, before releasing TDSOTM they were planning to make an album without using musical instruments, just objects, tools, kitchen appliances etc. That project eventually got scrapped except for some little pieces that can be found here and there across the album.

I find it incredible that Roger wrote all those lyrics when he was only 29.

1:11 Alan Parsons 6:05 recirding session track sheet - w/studio layout! I don't think I've ever seen this before. 7:06 Parsons suggested Clare Torry for Great Gig 8:40 Studer A80 2" 16-track

I have been trying for decades to learn the sources of all the background voices and sounds from every album. THANK YOU!

It was Chris Thomas who was resposible for the brilliant timed echoes on 'Us and Them'.

Thomas was responsible for significant changes, including the perfect timing of the echo used on "Us and Them". Wiki

Might seem strange a Thomas channel commenting on your videos. But I have been watching since the Ram video and I love this channel. It's really knowledgeable but told in a way that not too much information is spat into your face. I adore this album so much and actually saw Roger Waters live last year. My favourite Pink Floyd album has got to be 'Wish you were here' though as it's what got me into Pink Floyd as a whole. Amazing work and I look forward to future videos :)

Yep, informative and well put together but actually I'm here to give you some positives about your original music. Square The Circle is fantastic, or should I say FAB. You absolutely nailed that "Rain" sound and, impressively, wrote and played something that is way better than simple pastiche. It sounded so good on my studio monitors and to these, veteran but Pro, ears very, very good indeed. Subbed!

I heard that the McCartneys voices weren't used because Pink Floyd (or Waters) didn't want other famous music artists on their work. Likewise why Stephane Grappelli wasn't used on WYWH due to them already having used Roy Harper on Welcome to the Machine, so didn't want another famous featured artist on the album.

Dark Side of the Moon was by far the BEST album Pink Floyd ever released.

Eclipse has a real life message for all of the generations-
Live by those words and I guarantee you will find life is much easier.

All that you touch
And all that you see
All that you taste
All you feel
And all that you love
And all that you hate
All you distrust
All you save
And all that you give
And all that you deal
And all that you buy
Beg, borrow or steal
And all you create
And all you destroy
And all that you do
And all that you say
And all that you eat
And everyone you meet (everyone you meet)
And all that you slight
And everyone you fight
And all that is now
And all that is gone

Is all your life will ever be.
