NAMM 2023 - Elektron - Overbridge For AAX Preview

We met up with Mario from Elektron, who showed us the new capabilities of Overbridge in Pro Tools. Overbridge is a plugin that allows you to control your Elektron device bi-directionally with hardware, gives individual outs, which opens up the Digi machines to more flexibility than afforded by their usual stereo out. What's really great about it is that you don't have to sacrifice your interface that you already have built into your system. When you open up the plug-in at first, it'll just be the main out, but you have the ability within the devices to change the routing.

Overbridge has total recall, so if you just plug in your device, and you have a wrong project loaded, once you open up the DAW project, it'll just load everything onto your device. With overbridge, you can process everything separately with plugins, or outboard. It can pull out all of it and aggregate all of the devices and access the individual outputs of each one. Overbridge is now available in public beta with AAX and VST.

I found that I just want to use overbridge as a way to record, but that's sadly not possible.
I dont want to have my computer control when to start and stop the machines and in order to record, imagine a bigger studio that has more than elektron gear and want everything to play along. If they could solve that I dont care which DAW I have to use. Anyway, I never got overbridge to work. I would rather like to have an elektron mixer/device that just acts as a secondary sound card and can output adat.

In my mind, machines are for hands on control, not a plugin

Lets have an updated octatrack, with proper quantizing like digitakt, prob per track, notes length recording, effects tail after mute, small increments in encoder for pitch, much bigger memory, updated reverb, fade out of recorded tracks happening before end instead of added after, ability to assign headphone volume knob to main, sd card. I also have a digitakt, digitone, syntakt…mpc’s and more… octatrack is the only machine i never get bored off, always interesting… greatest box in the whole world!

I wish there was Overbridge for iPad/iOS but theres no way to do custom drivers on the platform. Digitakt has usb audio which is great but only 2 channels so you can't do anything too creative with custom fx sends per track or anything.

I always want to use overbridge but something is always broken on it so I always just go back to the analog outs. I thought I could finally start using overbridge again (was working good for the A4 and RYTM) but when bought a digitone there is a bug with the digitone's LP4 filter so once again I had to go back to the analog outs.

I don’t think they will deliver. I remember when they started this funny story. It was like 6-7 years ago. I even bought the Digitakt but sold it after 2 years of waiting. Well, good luck Elektron. 🤭
