Sony Raises PS5 Prices in Several Regions - IGN Daily Fix

In today's Daily Fix:
Sony is raising the price of select models of the PS5 in several regions, except the U.S. This is likely to counter the expected U.S. tariffs that could his the gaming industry hard in the coming months. The U.S. is the PS5's largest territory and Sony would want to protect the region from rising costs, but that means making up the difference elsewhere. In other news, Call of Duty: Warzone received a shot in the arm as the original Verdansk map has proven to be a hit with fans. The game saw a spike in concurrent players and positive feedback, and Activision has teased more Verdansk-related content in the future. And speaking of shots in the arm, Assassin's Creed Shadows is proving to be the boost that Ubisoft has needed. While it's not the franchise's biggest launch ever, it is currently the second-best-selling game of the year, behind Capcom's Monster Hunter Wilds. The game also saw two million players in its first weekend, and strong reviews from critics and longtime fans.

Remember when consoles used to go down in price throughout the consoles lifecycle

So during Black Friday they can be on "sale" at the original price? Nice 👌

If the tax is imposed on US and Sony manufacturers outside of the US why tf has Europe being taxed 25% think time to boycott sony.

The audacity of charging other regions more over the shit that the US is pulling while exempting them...
PS5 digital should be 299€ by now, not 499.
I remember buying a PS4 Pro for 284€ not too long after it had come out!

Raising the price in every market except the one where their competitor is somewhat relevant. Smart move but as a consumer it’s only making the switch to PC more appealing.

They can keep their stuff, the PS5 Is five years old, let the US foot the bill for their own misbehaviour.

This makes less sense because the PS5 is primarily produced in china

5 years and sony can't lower the ps5 price at least $50.

Pretty interesting seeing little to no backlash regarding this in the comments, especially after what happened with the Switch 2 just a few weeks ago. "It's fine as long as it's my favourite plastic box producer!"

The GPU market condition's preventing consoles prices from going down, not just preventing us from building a budget gaming pc.

Sony didn't wanna let Nintendo get all the spotlight.

Is "challenging economic conditions" just a euphemism for corporate greed, by chance? Since when is console hardware supposed to appreciate with time?

I'm from Pakistan and there are no official service of Playstation and Xbox in my region. But that doesn't matter since they are region free. PS5 cost $599 and Xbox series X cost $285 in my area. These consoles imported mostly from middle east via Grey market. But the real thing is, I can enjoy gaming in video game cafe where 1 hour only cost PKR 200($0.71) and can enjoy number of titles like black myth wukong and Tekken 8. I guess it would be more convenient for me to play console games in Gaming cafes instead of bought it to my house 😅.
