Power utility Eskom wants residents of Shabalala Village in Hazyview, Mpumalanga, to pay for a new transformer before power is restored.

For over a month, about 100 households have been without electricity.

The latest power outage comes months after another power cut that lasted six months between October 2023 and April 2024.

Residents claim they paid for a new transformer back then, which was fixed and not replaced. And now the power utility wants them to pay again for another transformer.
