I also had wondered if the Matt Gaetz pick was two fold: (1) to make it easy for Gaetz to resign from Congress in such a way as to seem unrelated to the ongoing investigation and (2) to serve as a deflection to get through Trump's other picks, which at first seemed novel at best but in comparison to Gaetz will now seem less eccentric and more likely to be confirmed.
