Показать описание
Let's fire up our 8" cabking lapidary polishing unit and polish up one of Michigan's fossils, the notorious "Petoskey Stone". This beautiful fossil was given to my by @MichiganRocksand I take about an hour and a half to polish this beautiful fossil, to the best of my ability and what the stone will allow me to with its natural flaws. I had a ton of fun working on this project and look forward to more, be sure to check out all the links below!

Petoskey stone is a fossil rock formed from the remains of the rugose coral Hexagonaria percarinata. These corals are believed to have existed before the dinosaurs and thrived during a time when a warm, shallow sea covered a large part of the Great Lakes region.

I do all my Petosky's by hand with wet/dry sandpaper from the automotive store. That machine sure makes it look easy. Going to get one soon.

Beautiful petoskey stone. It is a fossilized hexagonaria coral and they have such beautiful detail. And you did a marvelous job. Thank you for sharing!

You did an excellent job of polishing the stone. One small blemish, just means it's one of a kind. Move on and keep the magic flowing.

Good job on that stone. I can see the improvement in your skill and technique. Right on Taylor.😎😎😎

Looks good, Taylor. I couldn't even see the pitting you were talking about. I thought that part looked great. Those two white spots on the front edge and one on the back could be removed by spending more time in those areas on the first wheel. I actually start my Petoskeys on the very first wheel if they have any big pits to grind out. With a really smooth one like that, I think you made a good call to start on your first soft wheel, although you wouldn't have done any damage by starting on a coarser wheel.

One thing I like about Petoskeys (there are lots of things I like) is that they polish up very quickly since they're so soft.

Nice petoskey! Love the new apron. Looks heavy duty, a plus cookie pocket! 🍪 😋

That turned out great! That divot is great for a resting spot for your thumb! Use it like a worry stone! I sure would! I'm partial to Petoskey Stones since I'm from Michigan 💜 But the cookie made me giggle!

Nicely done @agatedad.
I am currently in Petoskey and heading to Charlevoix, MI next and then on to Leland. Having a blast picking these treasures off the land.

That is a beautiful job of polishing that Petoskey stone. I took one that was a junk stone and put it in the rock tumbler for filler and ran it for two runs of course grit and over three weeks and was suprised that it only lost about a third of its size and it's on the way to being polished. I think one of the songs by Herman's Hermits that you should have listened to is No Milk Today, because you didn't have any milk with your cookies. Keep up the great videos and God bless you and your family.
