Just when I was about to say "despite it's tragic end it's nice that at least all the officials did what they could to help this time". Then the section about Georgia Power started...

Wow! This dam is 3 minutes from my house, and I never knew anything about this. My grand dad helped build Oliver dam, and I've walked across it a few times and done lots of fishing below it, and never heard anything on the news, radio or the internet about this. It just goes to show you how they love to keep things like this very quiet. R.I.P. Alex

This is a tragedy. My condolences to the victim's friends and family. I can totally see why the survivor has PTSD and is dealing with "survivor syndrome". No one should ever die because of the work they do, even if it's high risk. Big corps always playing the "it's not my fault" card is just ridiculous and cruel.

I am working in a nuclear power plant and for almost every intervention we are asked, if things go wrong, what is your fallback solution ? Not here ? As the communication system was running fine, as soon as someone screams and is in a danger why someone don't ask to close / shutdown of the valve to stop that huge delta P ? Sorry for the worker who died in this accident.

This is really sad, that is why rechecking work MULTIPLE times is necessary, such events can also happen with low risk jobs but you never know what waiting for you, May Allah bless him

Does every penstock have a priming pipe with a gate valve? No one ever noticed something missing from the checklist? Can’t be the first time it was serviced.
