I knew what this vid was about but as soon as he just said “yes” a shiver went down my spine and my mind went “uh-oh..” yeah those manners are instilled in us hard and it’s expected of us from every age. Thank God I was born and raised here in the south. Manners and hospitality are instilled in all of us.
My husband, who is from California, actually said that if I held open a door for someone in a place like Cali or New York people would look at me like they expected me to demand something back. That I’d had an ulterior motive for doing it other than being polite. That’s just sad..

We don't outgrow it either do we! To this day, I get a call from a perfect stranger and is "yes ma'am" "no ma'am." Phone solicitors have got to feel the venom in my "sweetheart" though lol...

It just sounds so much better. Born in Texas that was my 2 words yes ma’am and no ma’am no sir yes sir.

If he'd just said "Yes, Ma'am - please give me five minutes" he would have been able to finish reading whatever he was reading. Poor boy'll learn. Mommas teaching him the right lessons.

That's what the CORRECT answer is. Manners were instilled in us and our grandchildren are also. You will gain tremendous respect from manners and RESPECT!!!!

When she also says your full first, middle & last name, you know you were about to get it.

In the north saying yes ma'am is seen as being a smart-ass, when I moved to Mississippi when I was young I got in so much trouble at school for not saying it

I was raised in the south but my family was from California. I didn't start saying "yes Ma'am" and "sir" until bootcamp. Still just reactively say it.

Wanna know what's odd? I was taught to say "yes ma'am" and all of that. I said "yes ma'am" to one of my writing teacher in fourth grade and she told me it was "disrespectful". Crazy, right?
