Abhidhamma teaches about ultimate realities. E.g., 4 fundamental material forms and another 4 characters of them (Suddhattaka). They are like 4 matter particles and 4 force particles in the atoms. Also, there are 28 material forms made by them. They are discoverable or theoretically explainable elements. Already a theory shows the existence of those elements. And that mathematical explanation is enough to accept the existence of those elements. And that theory has explained the existence of lot of things like that.
