It's always been one of my favourite Elvis songs, and probably the greatest performance of Elvis, in my opinion. I had never heard about the story of the Vietnam connection before. It just makes the performance even more special now. Magnificent and moving.

1968! ( I was just 5 years old)...." If I Can Dream" still speaks to us today!! Elvis sang that song to honer ALL the USA guys in Vietnam, MLK & RFK too! What a very tragic year! Fantastic song! Just as " What's Going On?" by the late great Marvin Gaye, in 1971....*....Classic's!

1968 was a very turbulent year for this country and this aired in December of that year and that song was quite fitting and yes, It was a message song for this country.
