We had missed the world cup of 1986 and national fever went to a boiling point when the Netherlands made it to the semi finals of the European Championships versus home country and arch-rivals (West) Germany and then later won the final versus the Soviet Union.
1988 marked the country's high point of hope, surprise, anticipation, fever, fear, anger, but most of all pride, revenge, joy and victory.
We've been chasing that ever since.
