This scene is how I discovered my lifelong passion for classical music almost 30 years ago. (Well, Emerson, Lake and Palmer had a hand in it too.) 😁

I relate so much to basil at the start of this clip 😂 I work in a hotel myself and believe me those 5 or 10 seconds you get to sit down are so glorious, until you hear someone coming and have to spring back to work again 😂

The very first ever piece of classical music I ever heard was the 4th movement Brahms 3rd symphony way back in 1993 when I was 3 and a half and it is my favourite piece of classical music. But it was only more recently what it was. It is not a racket Sybil it is a lovely piece of music that comes from the heart!

As devotees of Brahms my family and I go into hysterics when we watch this scene.
And when we hear any of Brahms music being played we all say “It’s Brahms, Brahms third racket”.
It is now a family tradition like so many other of the BRILLIANT ONE LINERS, like A TREE SURGEON BUT COULDN’T STAND THE SIGHT OF SAP.
The list goes on and on.
One of the very best that leaves all Americans furrowing their brows in confusion is a comment by the Major when he said “I knew a woman once, took her to see India (3 Sec pause) at the Oval”.
If you are confused by that line let me know and I will explain it, you have to be ENGLISH or Australian or S. African or Indian or from the Caribbean or N. Z. but not Canada.
It’s a Cricket thing, even the Scots or the Irish or the Welsh don’t get it.

The very first key press is wrong! Such great little details.

The absolute offence Basil takes to Sybil's comment always makes me laugh 😂

And yet despite the many iconic phrases like this, the series rarely repeated a joke or theme and had no catch phrases as such (that I can remember).

The only repeated use of an idea I can remember was the letter being re-arranged on the sign in the opening sequence. And that was justified as it just got funnier as the series went on.

Some people bemoan them making only 12 episodes. But with quality this well-honed it's hard to fathom how they even managed that, really.
