I always found it so interesting how non-classical musicians tend to stare at the fretboard. You aren't given that same freedom when constantly reading sheet music and end up develop muscle memory in a slightly more autonomous way. I think it would be fantastic to see more widespread fretless bass (and guitar, too)!
