I am only 39, born May'74 but I raised myself on all the music I listen too. The 60's is the greatest era of music there has been, or will ever be! I only saw Telstar: The Joe Meek Story at the weekend and albeit a fictionalised adaptation, it showed me that there is far more to this music than simply being great!

Joe Meek was and is a genius; so what if he was unorthodox - such is the burden of GREATNESS!!!

Hard to believe this wasn't a hit. It's a lovely song.  Funny how all these years later you hear a song that nobody wanted 50 years ago and now you think how in heavens could they have let such a sweet tune slip under the radar?

I had a small part in this film, but I never saw the end result. Heinz was great in it and he was singing live when it was filmed. I always liked the song.

Not from 'Farewell Performance' This was made in B/W and featured Heinz (and the Tornados) in live performances for the character he was playing, which was an arrogant, hated star who gets murdered. Derek Francis played the detective who investigated also along with Alfred Burke as a dodgy and seedy character. The director Robert Tronson (who had TV credits as long as your arm) had said that the last time he saw the film was a couple of months after release and not seen or heard of it since and had no luck much later in trying to find it, despite it being originally in the care of Rank Film Distributors, who obviously were not some here today gone tomorrow film outfit. Perhaps further to the mystery is the fact that the writer (also a director/producer on others) Jim O'connolly vanished from the film scene in the 70s.

That segment at 34 secs is almost scary. Bad lighting. I'm surprised Joe allowed it.

According to WIki: "Due to the inadequacies of Heinz's voice, his vocals on his first single "Dreams Do Come True" were over-dubbed by another singer, a Meek artist named Mark Douglas or Billy Gray, but whose real name was William Halsey." Joe Meek was gay and fancied Heinz, promoting him as hard as he could despite Heinz's lack of talent. All sorts of shenanigans went on the music business back then, and still does, but secrets were easier to keep back then!

The scopitones are very rare, I presume.

The strings in the break are great . That's the best part of the song . I don't know why this was not a hit. Maybe if someone else sang it, it would have been .

Apparently it does exist in private hands but he's not sharing ...it's on the BFI most wanted list, undoubtedly a crap film but worth seeing for the RGM stuff .. incidentally the still on the Heinz ep is from the film, and there are other stills but no movie
One day maybe ...
