at my middle school every year a bunch of us girls get together and make period boxes to keep in the bathrooms above the pad vending machine thing and it has liners, different sizes of tampons, different sizes of pads, and a bunch of other period products. the only rule is don’t take an essicve amount. i recommend you and some of your friends make one for your school!

*8 PERIOD TIPS*

*Heating pad:* If you don't have a heating pad you can make one with an old sock, and some rice. Just fill it with rice, tie the end, and stick it in the microwave for a minute.

*Cramps* Definitely wear looser underwear/pants if you have bad cramps. A lot of the time I find that the pressure on my stomach makes it so much worse.

*Going to the nurse* At my school you have to give a reasoning to go to the nurse before you can go. So if you need an excuse so you can go get some period supplies or a change of clothes you can say you have a headache and when you get there just explain that you didn't want the whole class and your teacher to know you are on your period so you said that instead. They'll understand.

*Telling someone:* If you need to tell your parental figure that you started but are too scared or worried, or just keep chickening out when you try to say it (I know from experience) you can just text them. It's a lot less pressure because you write it out, click a button and it's done.

*General advice:* I find that it's always nice to have someone to vent to about period related issues. It's just nice to talk about it, and have someone you can relate to so you don't feel as alone.

*Tracking:* it helps to use a tracking app. I use "Clue" and it works great. This will help you know when your period is going to come so you can be prepared and also know if anything seems to change. Related to that, the first 2 years of your period might not be regular and that's ok. You might skip a month, it might be light, then heavy, you might have 2 periods a month etc. If you are worried about something definitely tell your parent or someone you trust.

*Sleep:* I know it's difficult to sleep when you have cramps, but I have found that curling up and having a pillow in between your legs helps

The only con with opening a pad when the toilet is flushing is you have to be fast and you have to hope that they are loud enough for you to be able to open it and the sound not being heard.

I can tell that I’m super close to my first period bc of Sharon and it’s so awful for like a few seconds it feels like someone is stabbing me in the uterus and my mood swings are HORRIBLE and when I’m at school I crave pickles with nutella

Definitely use night pads of you have a heavy flow. Right from the start I realised that the regular pads were too small, and on my second ever period it soaked through and over the entire thing within an hour. It’s now been over a year since I started my period and I use the night ones all the time - it means I have to check way less regularly. For sure recommend!
