The other thing to keep in mind regarding Lawrence's pay is that she more than likely signed the contract BEFORE her breakout hit "Hunger Games" released (given it came out in 2012 and this movie released in 2013). Compare that with her two male costars, Bale and Cooper, already well-known in Hollywood as Batman and a member of the Hangover crew - meaning they were known names and had more "actor capital" to spend on getting a bigger paycheck.

Should background actors make the same as lead actors? Some people are more of a draw than others. The more famous you are, the more you get paid, sorry

Also, a note: Bale had to step in when David O Russell was berating Amy Adams, to the point she was crying. Bale confronted the director, telling him to “back off”. This is an issue well known about Russell, starting back with George Clooney on Three Kings.

Christian Bale had already played Batman three times at this point and been in multiple BlockBusters!

... Jennifer Lawrence was barely a name at this point and had no real name recognition with audiences!

Why would these two people receive the same payment?

My fun fact about this movie... About halfway through i leaned over to my girlfriend and said "I thought you said Christian Bale was in this movie."

Had no idea he was the fat bearded dude (i hadn't seen a preview/trailer or read anything about it).

For all you, “equal work for equal pay” kooks, you need to be real specific on what that means. Because I guarantee you by your own definition, stuntman, set design and craft services should make more than the actors.
It has nothing to do with race or sex. Enough already .

Was she fighting for equal pay for the other people in the production who were paid less than her?

Actors don’t get paid by the hour or the number of minutes they are in the film. It’s a collaborative effort. An actor gets paid their value which is reflected in the popularity which is calculated by their box office successes. An amazing actor might have box office flops and they will not be paid as much as a bad actor who starred in films that made a lot of money at the box office.

This is literally the perfect example of how “inequality” actually favors women, not men.

Typical- the lie gets told without this important context. So all those complainers can STFU

Jennifer Lawrence didn’t deserve the extra 20k a day

If she was underpaid, her agent at the time that her salary was set was to blame. If the studio made a lowball offer, her agent was supposed to pass it to her with a recommendation to reject it. If the studio then rejects her demand for more pay and hires someone else, she now knows more about the market for ingenué (sp?) roles.

I don’t know if it’s worth arguing about one actor getting paid more than another. It’s not like they are starving. Does it really matter if one of the top earners is making more than the other?

Why are you perpetuating this equal pay crap?

Funny how "But I was barely in the movie" almost never becomes a consideration when standing on such soap boxes.
