Important to note that the divergence in the 70s you mentioned is exactly when we got rid of gold backed dollars. Off grid living is great but for the benefit of the majority of people who won't/can't do this we should get back to commodity based currency

Even if it was the roaring 20s where everything is great, it never hurts to be prepared for the numerous things that can go wrong in our world.

I have always dreamt of achieving self sustainable living. I question this video only because I wonder; how much time is being invested into these off-grid systems? It wouldn't be practical to compare this to an era where our dollar was worth more if it requires a lot of time and work to sustain.

Plus you then own the means of your own production, and if you want to make some money on that you, the workers, make all the money rather than some scummy CEO who takes 99% of the value generated from your labor simply because they own the factory or farm.
