Have you considered a rust converter? They can be used as a base coat. That way you don't have to remove all the rust.

Look in to por-15, it is a rust converter. You just scuff off loose rust and brush it on and it turns rust in to black primer. Trust me when I say it is a permanent solution and after a quick scuff you can paint right over it.

Have you considered a raptor liner or something equivalent for the body? Something a bit more durable, and lasting. Paint is great and all, but the liner might be a cool look for the overall design that you’re going with on patches.

For the roof, maybe you could try chemicals to remove some rust. 🤔

Try a 2. Gal.pump sprayer with liquid rust remover.
