Ankyloglossia, or tongue-tie, is a condition where a baby’s tongue has a short band of tissue binding the tip of their tongue to the floor of their mouth. That can make breastfeeding painful and difficult. A growing number of infants are being diagnosed with tongue-tie and are having surgery to correct it. New evidence released in an AAP clinical report shows that for most infants diagnosed with tongue-tie, no surgical intervention or procedure is necessary. Pediatrician and mom Joanna Parga-Belinkie shares her baby’s experience with tongue-tie, and she explains how her pediatric team supported her and helped her make the best decision for her family.
