Biggest Problem For Future Space Missions:- Space Junk 🛰️ | w/ Neil deGrasse Tyson

Показать описание
There is already 6,300 tonnes of debris in near-earth orbit, and by 2030 there could be 60,000 satellites flying in this zone. The global space-faring community needs to address the debris issue, before the orbital environment becomes unusable.
.
Star Wars would have you believe that the greatest challenges to space travel is asteroids, lack of resources like water or fuel, or even the threat of unfriendly, intelligent alien life. But in reality, scientists are finding that the biggest obstacle to today's space travel is dust. Yes, space dust.
.
Even a ping-pong ball size space debris object can do severe damage to satellites, robotic missions, human spaceflight, and spacecraft, resulting in the loss of a mission or even a life. If a piece of space debris were to strike a spacecraft, it could release harmful chemicals or radiation into the cabin.
.
Neil deGrasse Tyson is an American astrophysicist, author, and science communicator. Tyson studied at Harvard University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Columbia University. From 1991 to 1994, he was a postdoctoral research associate at Princeton University. In 1994, he joined the Hayden Planetarium as a staff scientist and the Princeton faculty as a visiting research scientist and lecturer. In 1996, he became director of the planetarium and oversaw its $210 million reconstruction project, which was completed in 2000. Since 1996, he has been the director of the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York City. The center is part of the American Museum of Natural History, where Tyson founded the Department of Astrophysics in 1997 and has been a research associate in the department since 2003. #astrophysics #neildegrassetyson #jre #joerogan #jreclips #space #debrie #junk #spacemission #spacecraft #satellite #earth #919 #startalk #shorts #astronom

Imagine an aliens reaction to flying up to Earth's orbital field and seeing 10, 000 satellites and a bunch of space junk.

That Futurama clip is a good example of what can happen they always fly through trash in space

The map is space junk is not at scale. Most of that debris is too small to be seen at that distance, but still it is a lot.

Can we use magnets to harvest the metallic components in the orbit?

It’s like the ultimate defence barrier 😂

Send high powered magnets into orbit WITH the junk, and slowly catch some of it?? Or....?

I'm sure, aliens have cleaned, most of all that up! They frequent our planet all the time!

What if, instead of repelling an asteroid, we captured it and used it like a swiffer to gather the mess by guiding it into a high orbit?

The vastness of space and the density of the junk in space, must be minute to how.much we store and buru on earth so far.

So if we shoot material built on earth into the space, we cannot reach it, recycle it and thus are we irrevocably losing the material?

You got one thing right imagine the aliens that come and visit us and see all this garbage floating around the planet, 5000 nuclear weapons open pit mines everywhere. Wars and suffering, what a nice species maybe we should show them how to travel through space!

Can you imagine if all that shit just fell down to earth at once. It’s a shame this was never on Magneto’s radar 😮

So if its that much how can you even go up with spacecraft

We mine them. And put it out there. What a waste of resources

A paint chip smaller than a pencil lead will definitely ruin your day back with the space shuttle it could go right to the window a paint chip

Serves them right if that junk keeps them from going to space.
