Being goth is about expressing yourself, not expressing your will on your children. The hockey parents are awful, awful parents, but the one thing that can be said in their favor is that they aren't using flowery expressions to cover up what they're doing. The goth dad is covering up the fact that he's living through his kids by saying he's teaching them philosophy.

I think the thing we learn from this is that just because you are "different" doesn't mean you aren't forcing your kids to be how you are, and just because you are considered more normal, that doesn't mean you don't have unhappy children in your home.

I was asked to be on Wife Swap once. They reached out to me because they had specific professions (or lack thereof) to switch up. You had to have at least two kids. The pay was a flat $25K. Might give you an idea of why some people went on the show.

As a young goth that has been watching ken for many years- I find these episodes very entertaining. I would never force my ideals on another, the goth dad is doing exactly what my conservative mother tries to do to me. You need to let kids be themselves, express themselves. You can’t force your aesthetic on anyone, if I had kids and they didn’t want to dress like me- I’d support that choice.

The best way I can describe these two families is like baking a cake: you have all the ingredients, have the recipe, have the exact measurements of what to do, but still failing at making the cake.. They both present great points, laid all out on the table, but none of them actually are able to achieve it 😅

Terror hockey mom is literally sitting there degrading everything this guy does, but she feels entitled to then make a snarky comment and tries to run away? Absolute nonsense. Though dude wasn't entitled to that outburst in front of anyone, especially kids. Neither of these families seem to want the kids to be happy being themselves. But it goes to show people can be compelled to force their personalities on their kids no matter the lifestyle they choose to live.

The whole goth family reminds me of that addams family movie where Wednesday decided she wanted to wear some pink accessories and the parents had to realize that her individuality may not look like theirs. But then again, the addams family parents were like the best parents in the universe lol
