David Rohde, In Deep: The FBI, the CIA, and the Truth about America's 'Deep State'

A two-time Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist’s investigation of the "deep state."

In In Deep, 2020 ASU Future Security Fellow David Rohde embarks on a sweeping exploration of the CIA and FBI scandals of the past fifty years—from the Church Committee’s exposure of Cold War abuses, to Abscam, to false intelligence about Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction, to NSA mass surveillance revealed by Edward Snowden. It then investigates the claims and counterclaims of the Trump era, and the relentless spread of conspiracy theories online and on-air.

Rohde argues that, if a “deep state” is a group of officials who secretly wield government power with little accountability or transparency, Trump and his loyalists increasingly fit that definition. Under the guise of stopping a “coup” that does not exist, Trump is upending the checks and balances that are the foundation of American democracy. He is politicizing the Justice Department and other government agencies and using them to attack his enemies, both real and perceived. Whether out of fear or calculation, Trump is creating a parallel, shadow government filled with like-minded allies that operates outside official government channels without transparency, democratic norms, or public processes—a “deep state” of his own.

Don't know if so much trust should be put in a person who's decorated by the same elite he's being asked to 'expose', no matter necessarily how many renowned degrees one has.

Respect,

Oh...I've been noted as a conspiracy theorist while digging into conspiracies for the past 16 years. Of course, I also didn't mention that my direct ancestor is one of the reasons why Roger Williams (The Founder of Rhode Island & Founder of The 1st Baptist Church ever built in America in Providence, Rhode Island) came out with The Separation of Church & State that later transcended down into our U.S. 1st Amendment between The Danbury Baptist Association & Thomas Jefferson in 1803 under "A Wall of Separation." My direct ancestor was Reverend Edward Wightman, the last man burned at the stake in England by King James for heresy in 1612 during The Protestant Reformation which also led to The European Persecutions (U.S. Library of Congress). Reverend Edward Wightman was the great grandfather of Reverend Valentine Wightman buried in The Wightman Cemetery in Groton, CT who married Susannah Holmes, the great grand daughter of Roger Williams. Of course, The Protestant Reformation Era included people like Martin Luther (Lutheranism), William Tyndale (encyclopedia), Anne Boleyn (King Henry The VIII's 2nd wife), John Rogers (encyclopedia - The 1st Protestant Martyr during The Protestant Reformation Era whereas Rev. Edward Wightman was The Last Martyr. Of course, English Minister John Smyth had a hand in forming The Baptist Church Denomination who died in 1612. His followers, Puritans, set out to convince other Puritans and Protestants of forming a Pilgrimage known as The Great Puritan Migration (The Mayflower, Speedwell, and The Fortune as well as The Story of Squanto that led to The Pilgrim Wampanoag Peace Treaty signed on April 1st, 1621. Pilgrims were fleeing The European Persecutions before landing in Plymouth, MA in December of 1621. Squanto was one of the 27 Indians captured by Capt. Thomas Hunt, a lieutenant of Capt. John Smith from Jamestown, Virginia who came to know Pocahontas. Squanto also lived in London for 9 years working as an interpreter for British Captains before he was allowed to return home to find The Patuxet Tribe of The Wampanoag Clan all wiped out by disease. So, Squanto trekked south to find other clansmen from The Wampanoag Clan. Chief Massasoit kept the peace until he died from The Wampanoag Clan. However, Chief Massasoit's 2nd son later attacked in 1675 due to more and more settlers arriving who encroached upon his land which was known as King Philip's War or The First American Indian War. The Wampanoag Clan dragged The Narragansett Tribe into that war who Roger Williams bough his land from. The British Royals just wanted to enslave all those American Indians, but Roger Williams prevented that from occurring which is why he was also known as The First Abolitionist. However, The British Royals did manage to enslave some of those American Indians, but if not for people like Roger Williams, England would have enslaved them all. Also, Martin Luther's Theses 95 spoke of the corruption coming from within The Roman Catholic Church and according to National Geographic, Anne Boleyn was more of a Protestant than Martin Luther was. Also, King Henry The VIII executed Catholic Clergy while forming The Church of England (The Carthusian Martyrs of London). Of course, King Henry The VIII also executed Protestant Clergy as well who revolted over Anne Boleyn's execution by King Henry The VIII. National Geographic also doesn't mention Anne Boleyn's brother, George Boleyn, who Anne was also accused of committing adultery with. As time passed, more and more Protestants left The Church of England, because they were becoming just as corrupt as The Roman Catholic Church had become. The 30 Years' War broke out between 1618 to 1648 which was a war between Protestants and Catholics.

This probably would not have come to pass if the Republican Party would have still remained more Federalist like it was back in the Wild West Days.
