I think the problem is that even though colorism is wrong, they don’t know that because no one in Korea thinks of it as wrong, they don’t have anyone to tell them, and if they were educated about colorism and its implications it wouldn’t have happened. You said that is cannot be culture, but eastern asia still lives with sexism, racism, and colorism embedded into their society. Despite the developments of Korea, they don’t know that skin color is such a sensitive topic

One of the most important lessons I was taught in college was in a communications class. Our teacher explained how too often, we let things that are just morally wrong and inhumane happen because we write it off as “it’s just their culture!” In an attempt to be tolerant of other cultures, we let people in that culture suffer. Embracing and accepting cultures means letting people celebrate their own holidays, wear their own clothing, and eat their own food without trouble or discrimination. Embracing culture does NOT mean letting racism, sexism, homophobia, transpohobia, or abuse happen to innocent people because it’s “part of their culture.”
