Tackling health inequalities in Liverpool using geographic data science

Today, significant health inequalities exist right across the UK. In Liverpool there are places that are just a few minutes’ drive apart, where life expectancy can be up to ten years different.

Within the Geographic Data Science Lab at the University of Liverpool, researchers are using data proactively to try and dissect the reasons why places might be less healthy, looking at features and environments such as green spaces or air quality.

Through partnerships and collaboration, this research is supporting local authorities and national government to tackle some of these health challenges – whether that be access to healthy food or testing for infectious diseases such as Covid-19.
