Partygate, the scandal that broke back in December, shows no signs of slowing down as we approach the end of January. In fact, it might be getting worse. So in this video, we’ll take a look at the accusations of blackmail and Islamophobia, Johnson’s alleged birthday party, and the Met Police chief launching an investigation.

CORRECTIONS:
At 6:00, we say that the police investigation will delay the Sue Gray report. While this was expected at time of writing, the Met Police have since made clear that they don't expect their investigation to interfere with the Sue Gray report.
We also implied that the Christian Wakeford allegations came before William Wragg's announcement to the select committee. Wakeford's allegations in fact came a few hours after Wragg's announcement.
Finally, we accidentally called Nadim Zahawi the vaccines minister, when he is now the education minister.

Apologies - as you might have guessed, this script was written in a bit of a rush - and we hope to do better next time!

To resign is an act of honor...but then we're speaking about Boris Johnson, aren't we.

“2020 will be a great year for -Britain- Boris.”

And he took those words to heart, personally.

It’s bizarre that so much effort is going into saving someone who is, at best, mediocre at his job. I can only conclude that he has so much dirt on those around him, that they will do anything to keep him in post with his mouth shut. Either way, the whole situation and paralysis at the heart of government stinks.

“Phf—she hardly even _looks_ Muslim!” Brilliant defense. Almost as good as, “I can’t be a bigot, I have several minority friends”

Sounds like MPs need body cams like police, and recorded communications: written, email, texts, phone calls etc, meetings recorded and transcribed. They apparently aren't trust worthy enough to tell the truth without the threat of the truth being verifiable...

As an outsider, I would tell you that this Boris saga has implications far beyond UK borders. Britain is seen by many countries as a prime exemplar of parliamentary democracy. If Boris does not suffer the consequences of his action, Britain will suffer a huge loss of prestige abroad. And just like how America lost huge prestige because of Trump, Britain will find it much harder to negotiate or persuade other countries on a whole range of issues. You can just imagine Putin scoffing at any lecture or reprimand Boris directs at him, for example.

No matter what your politics you have to admit this is just fun at this point. Seeing the new ways Boris defends himself is just a treat.

I’m loving every day every new scandal. Might also be because I’m Irish ……

No doubt he will get away with it again just like he always has.

We desperately need a general election.

The last 5 years have taught us something crucial: you cannot trust politicians to "step down" in disgrace anymore. They just wollow in their filth and continue. Rules need to be in place to force elected officials out for flagrant violations, both in the UK and the US.

It just keeps getting worse for Boris Johnson, doesn’t it? I think the worst is yet to come.

I, for one, hope he will stick around until the next GE as a walking, talking reminder that this is what you get when you vote Tory. The next GE is still a couple of years away, so replacing him now only helps the Conservatives, not the country.

If Sue Gray doesn't release this enquiry formatted like the end credits of the hangover I'm going to be extremely disappointed.

"Hadn't done enough to defend the party from claims of Islamophobia" How ironic.

If he’s not leaving, Labour is looking at a landslide victory.

What amazes me is how anyone is surprised by this. To me it's just so dreadfully obvious and inevitable that the Tories would descend to this.

If these scandals keep coming, we'll be waiting longer for Sue Gray's report than the Elder Scrolls VI
