I found the fix!! I've had 3 of these now and they've all failed in the same way (full reverse only). 2 were mine. 1 was a buddy's. Although this video doesn't specifically call out how to fix, I've figured out that all that is needed is to reboot the screwdriver's electronics. If you open it up and disconnect the black wire lead from battery, wait a few seconds, reconnect the lead and put it back together... It fixes the reverse-only problem. I verified the fix with my buddy's screwdriver as well. Love this screwdriver. Wish B&D still sold it.

Gregvi, thanks for publishing your fix for reverse operation only. I disconnected the black wire from the battery then reconnected it and all is working great. I have used this screwdriver for all small jobs for several years now and glad I can use it for many more. Great screwdriver.

Interesting vid, Ty. One improvement would be to explain how to replace the battery without disconnecting all the other components from the orange housing.

I had same problem. Worked in reverse only. Have it working properly now. I did a complete teardown of motor /gear assembly and added lubricate around the 3 steel pins. I am one happy guy!!

I've had 2 of these now and they've both now failed in the same way. They'll only reverse at full speed regardless of the position of the driver. It's really frustrating.

Nice video. I would have thought some description of the battery would have been done. Is it a standard 18650? or a triple stacked NiMh 3.6v battery? Usually if something is lithium, it is heavily marketed as such; and there are no such labeling on the device. What is even more strange is that the charging adapter has a 9 volt output. This is still one of my favorite light duty screwdrivers, just not holding a charge for long. I am relishing being able to replace it with a higher capacity cell. Thanks again.

thanks for the video. wanted to see what I was getting into when it came to replacing the 18650 when it eventually dies. I love this thing and would rather keep it alive instead of buying the dewalt gyro.

Question please. I have one of these and cherish it. An excellent product. However, I tried a hack involving gluing magnets to the side of tools to allow for holding of screws, bit attachments, etc. For quite awhile I was using rubber bands to hold the magnets to the screwdriver sides with no adverse effects. Recently, i decided to glue the two magnets, one on each side. Shortly thereafter, the screwdriver would turn on when the activation pad was depressed, regardless of whether there was any rotation, and it will only turn left or counterclockwise, i.e., to remove screws direction. The self calibration suggestion in the manual hasn't worked. Could the magnets have affected the rotational motion sensor? Or the controller? Any fix ideas?

Looks like it uses a standard flat top 18650. Could replace the battery with a much better one for fairly cheap.

PS i see someone posted that this problem happened to them, sans the magnet element. So seems like a tool issue but I'd still like a fix!

Since the rear part of the device is thicker than the front, the longer screws go to the back side.

3.6 volt motor? That's odd since the product is marketed as 4 volts.

Thanks for this, mine is getting old and I need to do a battery replacement on her...I bought the 2nd gen replacement for this model and it falls completely flat minus the usb charger ability so back to square one :/
