Something you guys didn't touch on with the core counts we're seeing today and the reason I used a 8350 happily for years is not just content creation but code compilation as well. We're now building Linux kernels before you can get back from a pee break.

Great show, as usual, everyone!

Brad, I agree with you that: out of the x299 line-up so far, the 7820 is very interesting. At $400 less than the 7900 with still incredible performance (HardwareUnboxed got their hands on one, and it's good, but man it's toasty), it's an interesting price point - for many of the same reasons that R7 is interesting compared to the 7900. You mention that's what makes it competitive against 1800x: you get a smidge better performance for a smidge more money ($450 compared to $600). I think this is where the 1700 seems to be _more_ striking of a value: the 1700 can achieve 1800x performance, but for $300, or _half_ of the $600 7820. So, for a general consumer who can utilize the chip, I still think the 1700 is just a heck of a deal.

BUT (and it's a big but)
I could totally see why businesses would opt for the 7820 over the 1700: they have no interest in "overclocking" a bunch of boxes they're going to give to end-users. And if a business has large enough resources, the $150 difference between the 1800x and the 7820 is possibly worth the convenience and performance.

Don't forget that most gamers also run other applications while gaming. At that moment the 1700 does not get a lower FPS. However, the FPS does not on its own determine the input lag, which is what we really should be interested at, not if you compare different architectures. The consistency of frame render time is much more important than how high the average FPS and the maximum FPS are once you get above a certain FPS (let's say 75-100). Obviously if you game with a 60 Hz monitor you definitely should look at the consistency of the frame render time, not at which gives the higher maximum FPS.
Using only the FPS as a measurement tool is a bad habit, a few years ago that was allowable, not any more.

Talks about the heat problems with Skylake X ...

Something often overlooked in soundcard discussions is pcie lanes. On the mainstream platform the GPU gets preferential treatment for most people and the x299 platform becomes more of a requirement.

Just looking at the Cinebench 15 multithreaded scores, if Threadripper 16 cores come in at $849(probably will since EPYC is just a little more at 16 cores),   we can expect the score to break 3k. Intel will no way win this round with those kind of prices.

haha. Is so weird. In so many videos, my thumbs up always leaves a channel (or this channel) in an even number, like in the play list I'm watching, or just like now. 200 Thumbs up 👍🤷‍♂️

The 7900X is a core i9, not i7 as the graphs indicate FYI

I wish threadripper would just have a release date not this "coming soon during Summer" 1 or 3 months wait?
