Why We Are Not Allowed to Visit Antarctica

Показать описание
Visiting Antarctica is heavily restricted for several important reasons. First and foremost, it's to protect the delicate and unique ecosystem that exists there. Human presence can disturb wildlife and flora that are not accustomed to outside interference. Antarctica's extreme environment poses significant risks to unprepared visitors, such as harsh weather conditions, freezing temperatures, and treacherous terrain. The continent is also considered a scientific preserve, and strict regulations are in place to maintain the integrity of ongoing research and prevent contamination. Overall, limiting access helps preserve this pristine environment and ensures that scientific exploration can continue without undue disruption.

I wonder who got rights to decide what to open or close on this Earth. So much entitlement, it really is amazing.

I was always intrigued by this place as a kid. We had a teacher who told us there are parts of Antarctica that are off limits even to the scientific research centres based there, and that you would have to take detours that lasted for miles to get around certain areas. I always remember him saying " When people dont want you to see something, its normally because they are afraid of how others will react." Always stayed in my head that has since the age of 10.

It’s crazy how so many people have no clue what the treaty says but will believe anything they are told.

It's crazy they care about the natural habitat down there but every other continent is absolutely covered with humans 😂 makes sense

Technically, you can go to Antarctica, it's just that you won't be supported when you get there. Without support, ie food, fuel, maintenance and so on, you can't survive for long. Outside of the scientific bases set up by the various nations there is no infrastructure and the environment is very hostile to life. I remember when I was there a guy flew down in a small private aircraft and landed at our base. He was refused fuel and any other support other than to get a bite to eat and use the bathroom, so he had to turn around and fly home. He had just enough fuel to get back to Tierra del Fuego, otherwise he would have had to have left the aircraft there and pay to get it shipped back at his own expense.

As breathtakingly beautiful as it may be, I’m ok with never going there myself. I’m freezing just watching this🥶

Looking at it from google maps, there's a lot of areas blurred or pixellated to hide something. One of the mountain ranges almost looks like there are trees but can't make out the image because it's all blurred or not focusable.

The only requirements to visit Antarctica are a permit and passport. Tourism companys usually take care of the permit, but you can personally obtain one on your own. This is the permit form for US citizens. You will need to complete a DS-4131 ADVANCE NOTIFICATION FORM – TOURIST AND OTHER NON-GOVERNMENTAL ACTIVITIES IN THE ANTARCTIC TREATY AREA. A simple Google search will confirm this.

Wish they had more had that same energy for Africa!
They literally stole national treasures, natural resources, human lives, & still to this day, haven’t returned anything

Aurora Borealis is only in the northern hemisphere. Aurora Australis is in the southern hemisphere. Also, there are no polar bears on Antarctica. Yes, you can go there either on boat or by air. They have multiple lodging accommodations for visitors.

Why are there countless amounts of websites that say you can visit Antarctica then?

My sister has a travel group that she has taken there many times. She just went a couple years ago when she was 65. Some of her people were over 70. Basically, if you can walk half a mile without stopping, you can go!

A simple answer to an easy question. Because there are entrances and exits to other external lands and areas outside of our understanding of our realm. If you can't get your mind around that, then they have you where they want you, IN A PRISON.
