Large potholes are my biggest concern, especially at night. They can totally throw you off balance if you don’t see them. Great video ⭐️

I got my first motor bike in 1945 and been riding ever since. You put out some good advice and tech. Wish I had someone like you to listen too at the time, as it would have saved a lot of trips to the doctors. Great advice and I hope people listen to it. Thanks.

Stay clear of parked cars whenever possible, not just for people opening doors, for the random jaywalkers who will come out from between them.

I remember one time, I was going downhill with my VSETT 10+, trying to control the breaking so I would not speed up out of control. For some reason, in a given spot I felt the rear tire skeeding out of control, so it was unavoidable I was gonna fall.

I remembered one of the few advices I had back when I decided to get me an eScooter: if you're about to crash, jump out of the scooter. So I did. I jumped out of the scooter like on this guide but since I was still riding downhill, I had to run and keep my ballance for about 150 meters. it was scary but I left there without a single scratch. The scooter got really minor cosmetic scratches but needed some adjustment on the handlebar.

So, yeah, mind your stance and be prepared to ditch your scooter if you have to. I basically dodged serious bruising that day.

If you spend more then 2k on a scooter/have one that goes above 30~ I STRONGLY suggest takeing a beginners motorcycle course. So many of the principles are transferable for like 200~ dollars. It might not exactly save your life but it could help you become a better rider in general. A lot of it is common sense but there are many tips and tricks I was able to apply to my scooting

I have been riding for a couple years and I have a 5600W 60mph scooter so I wear a full helmet, knee and elbow pads, gloves that have impact resistance, a thick leather jacket and I thick padded shirt I repurposed from its original paintball purpose. I have several thousand miles on my scooters but not 2 weeks into owning my brand new powerful scooter I was riding on a trail and suddenly came upon a corner out covered in the trees and it was wet and covered in leaves. I had never had any kind of trouble riding yet but as I entered that corner the scooter slipped slightly and it was just enough that my body kept going straight and I went down straight on my chest with my arms extended out. It was slow motion and I felt like I was going through a checklist in my head and I was wearing all my safety gear. The impact was hard but it did not hurt me in any way shape or form in all the places I was wearing pads. This was a wonderful feeling.

However, I was wearing a backpack that had my tools in it and it did not have a chest strap. The left side shoulder strap had slipped down and was covering my upper arm and I just swung it back up on my back whenever I stopped. But when I payed my scooter down my arms extended out in front of me to break my fall and as I hit I immediately felt my shoulder separate because that strap. It was so incredibly painful and I just couldn’t even put my arm in front of me at all to grab the handlebars. But I was in the middle of nowhere and I had to ride out of there. During the course of getting back I ended up redislocating my shoulder over and over and over because the ligaments and tendons were stretched out and the slightest movement was causing my arm to dislocate again. Each time it did I would be frozen in pain in the position I was in and had to sit and wait for minutes for it to finally pop back into the socket.

After over an hour of this I made it to a bus stop that I was familiar with and I waited for the bus to go over to the emergency room. My scooter weighs over 100 pounds and I had a heavy backpack as well and as the bus pulled up I tried quickly to tell the driver I had injured my arm and I was hoping he could put the ramp down so I wouldn’t have to pick the whole scooter up and carry it over the gap between the curb and the bus. His response was, “THE RAMP!?!” My head dropped and so I grabbed my scooter and backpack with my good arm and I did my very best to keep my other arm just locked against my side, but it had been popping out freely for almost a couple hours at that point. I got my scooter onto the bus and it was completely full and everyone was staring at me and just then my shoulder went out of socket and I was frozen once again just holding my stuff. The bus driver acted bothered and he hit the gas and threw me all over the bus with my shoulder still out and no place to even sit. Not a soul got up to help me out and I sat paralyzed. Nobody knew what was probably wrong with me, bu after about two minutes my shoulder slid back into place and screamed out in pain. My shoulder popping back in was so noticeable that everyone on the bus gasped and didn’t even realize it was out until they saw it slide back in. Every bump made me wince and I finally made it to the emergency room. It turned out that I had completely broken the shoulder side of my shoulder socket in half and half was free floating. It was emergency surgery to fix it. I learned some very valuable lessons that day.

I love scooters, they are such a unique form of travel, deceptively tricky to master.

I recently started riding an electric scooter for general commute and I naturally started to impliment some of these after just a couple trips like the wide stance, steering with the feet and shifting down and back to break without much thought. Great tips because it does feel really nice. I'll try using both breaks I haven't used the back break much. I did have an instance where I had to "let go". My first time riding there was a rail road that kind of went up the street at an angle and not just straight across and soon as I saw it I worried about getting stuck in it with my small wheels so i ran it out beside the scooter and caught myself then continued riding on the other side. From then on I also started looking farther ahead of the road.

there was another time, riding downhill again, this time with a Dualtron Thunder2, there were wet sections of the road, and the hill was REALLY steep, so it was very easy to pick up speed. There were MANY spots where I thought "... this is it!, I'm going down!..." But kept my stance, tried to control the braking and weight distribution and all that I knew could help me stay riding and not falling.

In the end, I happened to make it out unscathed from that hill, did not fall, but vowed to NEVER do that again, at least NOT on that hill. That was stupidly scary.

So, yeah, learn how to stop, mind your stance, how to steer and then some. You never know when you're gonna need to apply everything at once so you don't fall and hurt yourself.

Great video and tips!
Looking ahead and steering with the feet has made the biggest difference for me. I try to only hold the handlebar as a support and try to use my legs for most of the balance and steering. Also looking far ahead gives me more stability in higher speeds +30mph. I mean if I go in that speed and I look at front tyre for wobble I get wobble instantly but at the same speed looking far ahead I have no wobble and it feels stable. IDK it might sound weird but I think many wobble situations might be due to the rider than the scooter.

Love these tips. I'm still a bit scared to turn sharp corners at 10mph+ but I'm working on it. Definitely, definitely wear safety gears. If anything, wear a full face helmet. Even being on scooters that only get to 15mph, a fall can be fatal or at least hurt very badly. Even at a jogging pace of 8mph, would you want to suddenly tip over and fall to the ground? Probably not, so wear a full face helmet. I see so many people forego this around here just because they're only going down the street or a block away.

About steering with your feet, it can be really useful to quickly dodge a small obstacle or sort of do small slaloms if you need to be precise where you ride. Bend your knees, and think of your scooter as skis, move your feet sides to sides all while firmly pressing on the board to keep a good grip on the surface and you can really be quite agile. Now, this works well with small, light and agile scooters, it's not the same deal with bigger scooters.

Great tip about running it off. Got my first scooter 2 weeks ago the other day I flipped over the bars and fractured my cheek and sinus wall LOL 2nd time riding. Wiped out dozens on boards and bikes, this one takes the cake!!
