People tend to despise this record but I find it fascinating. Love every second of it.

The album about a fallen war veteran trying to make his best life. Finding out he wants to apply The Final Cut but then receives a phone call and realizes he wants to live. So he lives, he goes out and had a great night just to be blown to bits by the Second Sun. Fucking tragic if ya ask me. Great album. It got me out of a depressive suicidal funk last December/January. This album will always have a special place in my heart.

I listened to it agsin for the first time since college today actually. I used to love it (along with The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking). Now i find them good and emotional some points, but overall a bit sappy and contrived.

Cracking review. Love this album, not just as a companion piece to The Wall.

I think of the Final Cut as a 25 minute, seven song album (David Gilmour had a point in calling Roger Waters lazy to put the tracks they cut from The Wall on it). Still beats the albums without Waters for sure, based on what I've heard.

It's a Waters album, not a Pink Floyd one.

As usual, I enjoyed your review very much, even if we disagree over some points.

I love this record (and much prefer it over “A Momentary Lapse of Reason” even if one is arguably a Roger Waters solo album and the other a David Gilmour solo record).

Sonically, it has stood the test of time much, much better (to the extent that an entire remix of AMLOR has been deemed necessary in 2019), even if the 3D effect of Holophonics (invented, interestingly given the subject matter, by Hugo Zuccarelli from Argentina) is difficult to appreciate (if there at all).

I do miss David Gilmour’s vocals and solos in this record and wish there was a lot more of them. When they do show up, they instantly elevate the quality of the music significantly.

I totally agree with you: I love “When the Tigers Broke Free”, but it doesn’t belong on this record. If anything, it should be added to “The Wall”! (Exactly where would be an interesting debate given that it is split in the film into two halves if memory serves me right). I prefer “The Final Cut” without it.

I was living in Argentina at the time of its release (I was 13) and the emotional impact hasn’t dulled over the years for me (nor for many Argentine rock fans who love the record too).

For some reason, (probably laziness, or reading and listening to the wrong people and not trusting my gut, who knows?) I was under the impression that anything after the Wall was not worth my consideration. I stumbled across Amused to Death recently and I couldn’t believe how great it was and now I’m down a Roger Waters rabbit hole..or is that a Roger Rabbit water hole? Just when you think you’ve heard it all, something comes along to reignite that fire. Really great review and I’m looking forward to purchasing and immersing myself in this album.

I have to be honest. I absolutely hate this album. Not disrespecting other opinions, but I've given it multiple chances and every time I am amazed how boring and ear-wearing I find it. Roger's vocals all just sound whiny to me. I'm sure this album meant a lot to him personally but I'd take AMLOR or Division Bell any day.

IF YOU HEARD THIS ALBUM FIRST WHEN THE TIGERS BROKE FREE IS THEMATICALLY IMPORTANT. I DISAGREE WITH YOU THAT IT DOESN'T BELONG. THE FINAL CUT REMOVES THE ROCK STAR MELODRAMA OF THE WALL AND FOCUSES ON ANTI WAR SENTIMENT
