As for Poindexter's glasses, the scene where he's trying to paint, and they have to push him closer to the pole, that wasn't scripted. He genuinely couldn't judge the distance to the pole due to the thickness of the lenses.

I believe the Stan Gable character came out as a nerd in one of the sequels, and Ogre came out as a nerd in Nerds in Paradise.

Two years before Anthony Edwards played a nerd in this movie, he played one of Jeff Spicoli's stoner buds n Fast Times At Ridgemont High, with considerably longer hair. And Timothy Busfield is married to Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura on Little House On The Prairie.

This was one of the movies we got for ship's TV when I was deployed to the Med on an aircraft carrier '83 - '84. Makes me feel 20 again to watch it 😆. Much preferred it to Midnight Express which was played a couple times a day for a week before we pulled into Istanbul... turned out no worries though, that port visit lasted maybe 12 hours before we had to pull out & head back to the eastern Med.
