'Rust' armorer found guilty of involuntary manslaughter

She was responsible for he ammo box with LIVE AMMUNITION in the box. There is no reason for LIVE ammo to have been in that box. Nothing like nepotism to bring out the most qualified person for a job.

It is normal procedure to check a gun to see if it's loaded before firing it.

From what I understand after following the case closely and hearing from family who works in the industry with these people, the scene in question required Alec’s character to perform a “quick draw” and point a revolver at the camera. Due to the framing of the shot the revolver cylinder was showing which meant dummy rounds needed to be visible for authenticity. Dummy rounds are not the same as blanks (which look distinctly different) dummy rounds look identical to live rounds. This armorer mixed live rounds in with her dummy rounds. She loaded the firearm with a live round and handed it to Alec for the scene. As Alec was drawing the weapon he accidentally squeezed the trigger sending a bullet through the cinematographer and into the director who both were standing before the camera.

While both Alec and the armorer bear responsibility for the accident, it’s clear the armorer’s negligence is what lead to this tragedy. In Alec’s defense as an actor his job wasn’t firearm safety and he performed his roll according to the script, however as a producer on set he was responsible for making sure the crew were performing their jobs correctly and should have recognized Hannah’s incompetence. He may still face charges.
