For the record the cable will NOT interfere with the functionality of the A pillar airbags, as he didn’t go in front of the door seal, or behind the pillar trim in front of the airbag unit. This is a perfectly safe installation.

Why place the camera so obstructively low? Would it not fit higher?

What about the airbag in the pillar, shouldn’t the wire be routed behind that and how do you do that?

Just wire it into the fuse box! It's super easy and you have the camera too low. It should not impair the drivers vision.

It’s easy that way but you’ll have to turn it off every time as the accessory socket doesn’t turn off with the ignition ! It needs wiring into fuse box to turn off automatically so Halfords isn’t such a bad idea if you’re unsure how to do it

That "annoying thing" as you call it is the ferrite core. It is for interference suppression from FM or DAB radio. If you need it it should be placed about 20cm (7.5 to 8 in) from the camera. If you don't need it it can be removed. You should figure out if it needs to be used or not before running the line under the trim 🤣.

Thanks for the video, very helpful, though, I am getting confused as to which way you run the wire, is your lighter positioning that will determine that - i.e. you ran it to the left and others went opposite way, if you'd decide later on to install a rear cam, I am assuiming the wire will be running from the front cam to the right and across to the rear window?🫣🤔

Hi, got a question for you. Ive got a Ford Puma ST Line 2021 and im fitting a Dash Cam myself. Thing is do i put it to left or right side of the mirror? Right behind the mirrir is quite a big panel on windscreen, so it would need to go either side of that i guess? LOL

Mine was hard-wired in. Presumably I just need to insert the SD card and download the app for it to store and record footage?

It's not recommended to take off the ferrite core as that can result in the camera interfering with the car's DAB radio.

If the owner doesn't have a DAB radio it shouldn't be a problem but it's not good practice to take it off.

I have recently purchased one, and it seems to love saving a recording when the car door is closed, but for some reason, got my rear light cluster smashed, and did not record a thing. So not too sure on it at present, since it has not worked. Since i have no idea how or who smashed my rear lights - Driver side.
Plus they state put it on the passenger side of the rear view mirror, so you can not see the screen, so pointless for the so called reversing camera set-up.

One step i would add to the start is to clean the area of the window where you are applying the adheasive stand. Use some kind of fluid that removes oil and grease, on a microfiber cloth. That will help to ensure the adheasive sticker will stay on for the long term and is less likely to slowly come away with time.

This seems like a bit of a rushed job to be honest. The extra time to clean the window will make a big difference.

Think I’d prefer Halfords in all honesty. In fact they did my last CarPlay and were fantastic with it. I think you need to sort your own shoddiness before being critical of others. I would not have paid you if you’d done that ‘install’ for me. I’m attempting a full CarPlay, microphone, reverse camera retain, dash cam (front and rear) for the first time and I already know how NOT to do it so thankyou.

Can this be used without cigarette lighter port. Can you charge it and use it?

Do not fit the sticky pad in winter as the glass needs to be warm AND also grease and dirt free for it to stick on.

You shouldn't really install like that, besides the obvious like camera position. why would you push the wire behind the pillars which ofcourse then means the wire is being forced infront of the air bag, which means if you have an accident you have a wire aiming for your face at serious force (causing serious inury), if you want to fit it yourself do it properly and pull off the pillar and tie it behind the airbag, a bit more work but alot less injury, also connect it to your fuse box (how halfords do it) it looks tidier and more professional, yes you pay for it but I guess those "under qualified" do a better and safer job than you did in this video 😂😂 guess your even more under qualified, lesson is don't mock if you can't do it properly yourself 😂😂
