GoPro Hero HD at Texas Soaring Association

I took up an ASK-21 at TSA around dusk to test out my new GoPro HD camera and these are the results! sorry the tow is so long but if you skip past it there are some very nice flying scenes.

Hey, i bought the suction cup, too. I think i'll use it the first time by the beginning of the next season (which beginns next weekend). Hope to be able to post some new vids in a few months:). Greets from germany:D

the GoPro cameras come with a suction cup supposedly rated to hold on all the way through 200 mph, so i just found the flatest spot and stuck it on the wing, I have made nearly ten flights and it hasnt come off yet! for safety i tethered it with parachute cord to the tiedown loop, just so i didnt lose the camera. :) I love your videos, there will be more to come out of me once i get editing software :/

@michaelvirginia I've seen it strapped onto the wing with an elastic strap, but a strap anywhere on the tail wouldn't be possible because of the control surfaces I'd think... Yea my aerobatics instructor/ camera enthusiast is designing some sort of slide on type deal but who knows when it'll be ready

@michaelvirginia With it mounted on the wingtip, if u have a 1-2 foot length of cord, if the camera came off it would hang safely below and behind the wing, just make sure you have enough length so that it hangs away from the aircraft. Make sure you clean the spot on the wing and wet down the suction cup and it shouldn't come off lol, recently I mounted the camera just behind the canopy on the fuselage and I was unable to tether it for that very reason, but thankfully I still have my camera!

I was thinking of some sort of strap system that could be mounted on a Fin and tightened up. The go pro can be strapped to a helmet, why not to a horizontal stab or tail fin or wingtip somehow.

I read that one guy made a fiberglass sleeve that would fit snugly over the front of the tail fin and is taped down. Since all the air pressure is from the front..it would stay in place. The same approach to mounting at the wing tip, taped down secure..That may be the only way to do it.

@michaelvirginia nope, i really want to but i havent thought up a way to tether it safely, eventually i will man up and stick it on the tail un-tethered. i fly club gliders so i cant do anything thats permanent but if you own your own a private glider, those adhesive mounts included in the GoPro package might be a good option? they are low profile but would still affect laminar flow, then again that might not be an issue on your ship. but the have a very solid hold

thanks for the quick reply on wing tip mounting. Have you mounted it on the tail fin or horizontal stab? Did you manage to tether it somehow if you did? This is going to be cool..

I just bought the Motorsports GoproHD package. I may give the suction cup/para cord mounting a try.

But if it did come loose, wouldn't it bang away on the glider wing, maybe damaging the gel coat and camera?

let me know if you brainstorm up anymore ideas, there is a video of a pitts biplane with a gopro on the tail in my favorites list, the person says its a home made mount that clamps the tail?

Hey bro... rember me... On september 18 i flew... You hooked Green 21 with me and omri up... We went and flew... Ima start training to fly there
