ASM Hydrasynth Interview #NAMM2020

Ashun Sound Machines is a new company, debuting with their really strong Hydrasynth. I had the pleasure to meet with both Glen Darcey, head of product development, and product manager Dominic Au. We had a talk about their story leading up to where they are today.

I think the ASM Hydrasynth is the best synthesizer ever created in my honest opinion, coming from my 40+ years of synth/ keyboard experience! I own the 49-key version and I absolutely love everything about it! Kinda blows my mind that this thing is completely digital, but has the warm sound of analog. the features give an unlimited field of creativity for unique patches. From the grand ribbon controller to the awesome polyaftertouch (my favorite), this thing was very cleverly designed and engineered. The ease of use is also a plus, for beginners as well as pros. The robust build gives an idea that it will last at least one lifetime. The vast selection of waveforms is just incredible! The LEDs on the panel give great functionality, as well as eye-catching. The effects are also so great. This will be a most valuable piece of music hardware in my arsenal for years and years to come! Bravo Ashun Sound Machines for an amazing creation!!!

I can’t wait to get my Hydrasynth. Still got about a month before mine will come in but this excites me even more. It’s great knowing I’ll own an instrument made by people that genuinely love what they’re doing. And that love really shows through in the instrument.

Watching this now in Dec. 2021, just freaking addicted to this synth. After watching many videos, got a desktop version of the Hydrasynth. Kicking myself for not having the keys. Just awesome sounds this beast makes. As a person in IT, I appreciate the background info on efficiency.

Fun fact: I was waiting a long long time for an Oberheim clone from a competitor that Glen way talking about. But in the end I gave up and spent that money on a Hydrasynth. Couldn't be happier 😋

The young guy obviously looks up to the older more experienced guy, and they seem to have a great working relationship. I bet their team has grown since this interview, I cant believe that there is only 5 of them. Anyway I have just ordered their latest product the explorer, but everyone is out of them so I just went for the best deal and now have to wait for them to get here!

Great interview, and such nice people. It'd be a shame NOT to buy their synth. In your sound demo, it seems much more analogue than I was expecting - could have sworn it was a Jupiter 8.
