Why Does the Moon Look Bigger on the Horizon?

In this video:

Have you ever wondered how the Dalai Lama becomes the Dalai Lama? Well, wonder no more.
For starters, it should be noted that the Dalai Lama is not technically considered to be chosen; rather, he is found. But to understand how it works, you first have to learn the basics of Tibetan Buddhism and its belief in reincarnation.

If y'all watched Avatar: The Last Airbender, how Aang was chosen to become the Avatar, that's basically how a Dalai Lama is chosen. The three toys or items chosen by the previous Dalai Lamas or Avatars, identify his Holiness

I hope that the Dalai Lama continues on with his rebirth.

Buddhists: let's have some super complicated, highly specific, multi-year process for finding the new Dalai Lama out of the millions of potential candidates

Sceptic: what if that process produces more than prospective Deli Llama?

Buddhists: hmmm. Guess we'll just pick the name out of a hat?

This is a very quality upload. Videos like these are why I recommend this channel to others and have been following it myself since day one.

Wonderful! Since I discovered this channel, I've unhesitatingly recommended it to people who appreciate quality viewing. Thank you so much, for presenting an information channel which strives for--and achieves--excellence. A great many so-called info-channels don't even try, but instead present the dreck most easily available on the subject. It is obvious you do your research, thoroughly and diligently. Thank you.

I used to make the mistake of pronouncing 'sentient' with 't' in the middle. But after listening to an audiobook it is actually pronounced like 'senshient' similar to 'ratio'.

Avatar: The Last Airbender literally copied Tibetan Buddhism beat for beat.

I think with "drawing names out of vase" you are really referring to the Golden Urn. This was a means the Qing Emperor tried to control the succession of Buddhist tulkus. There were two Golden Urns - one for Tibetan tulkus, one for Mongolian tulkus. But according to the 14th Dalai Lama they only humored the Qing Emperor, without really using the Golden Urns. he also said that only one Dalai Lama was found using the Golden Urn.

China has "found" the Panchen Lama, another tulku, in 1990s using the Golden Urn.

Good video. Some failures of pronunciation (it should be Gedun Pel. In Tibetan the Ph is always an aspirated P, never an F) but very informative and overall accurate. Some weird pictures though (like ones of very obviously Korean acolytes at 5:05).

"Sir we found a bunch of kids who meet these criteria, maybe we should form a more specific way of findi-"
"Just pick a name man"
"This girl also matches too"
"Eh"

It is very good that Mongolians after Ginkhis Khan actually solidified in Buddhism. In case you didn't know, but after Mongolians captured Baghad and other Muslim lands half of Mongolians converted to Islam and had wars between them, the original Buddhist Mongolians, and the the local populations of areas now known as Russia. (Tartars, Uzbeks, Kazakhs, and pretty much all of these asiatic Muslims are Muslims because of that conversion). If all Mongolians turned to that evil religion known as Islam I doubt many people would fare well.
