You can tell by Leon's tone of voice when he's talking about a subject he really enjoys. I love his serious analysis, of course, but it's nice when he sounds genuinely happy about doing a video.

Shaun of the Dead might be a good horror comedy for those trying to get into the genre as well.

Seven has a scene with the guy who isn’t dead that is quite like a jump scare. Scared the crap out of me and made me feel sick! Great film from someone not hugely into horror.

Disappointed the "horror comedy" didn't include "Tucker and Dale vs Evil". Easily a high point of the genre.

I remember watching The Omen when I was a kid and my mother saying "Aw, this devil boy looks just like you when you were little, so cute!"

For those who are repulsed by shock or gore, i recommend psychological horror or those of surrealist nature. And know your limits. David Lynch, though never having directed any horror films, can make scary stuff just in how he delves into subconscious imagery. Bong Jon-hoo in addition to a number of other korean also come to mind.

As a whole I’ve always found the horror and sci-fi genres to be the most progressive when it comes to storytelling and the themes the stories explore with their characters.

Children's horror can be a lot of fun even when you're an adult, for those who want to ease into it. Nothing to be ashamed of for watching "Are You Afraid of the Dark" or old episodes of "Goosebumps."
Ooh, please make a video about children's horror!

The Wizard of Oz was terrifying for me as a child. But now, seeing people suffer is the thing that keeps me away from horror. I’m ready to try if the film is worth it.

Se7en has one significant jump scare, when the sloth victim is startled awake, and it damn near gave me a panic attack when I first watched it.

This is a great idea for a video. I *love* horror, and when I mention this some people immediately assume that I'm a gore hound - I'm very much not. The type of horror that I'm into is mostly the suggestive, psychological, mindscrewy kind.

When I was a kid, even _Goosebumps_ was too scary for me, but I've grown a taste for horror over time. However, in the years since turning eighteen, I still haven't seen that many horror films or played that many horror games, so I really appreciate recommendation videos like this.

As a hardcore horror and sci-fi fan, the genre I usually avoid is the Romance Movies. However, there are some good crossovers with "Warm Bodies", Gary Oldman's "Dracula", and "Crimson Peak".

I think a good horror comedy people can watch if they want to start watching is “Tucker and Dale vs Evil”
It’s pretty gorey but there’s a lot of fun and Alan Tudyk is super funny

Its strange, my favorite horror movie is The Thing, but i always have to skip the part where the dogs are hurt even though i know it isnt real. It just looks so real.

1:12 That extending arm shot from FFC's BS's Dracula is such a wonderful effect. If fact, that film has some of my favourite "creepy" moments; like Dracula's shadow acting against him.

Silly creature features were my entrance point. Sharktopus, Megapirahnas, etc. They follow a lot of the same basic beats and 'rules' as slasher films, so it was an easy leap. Then from slashers to the wide, wonderful world of horror.

There are also kids horror genres. Are You Afraid of the Dark and Goosebumps might be campy and not terribly scary, but they hit the same beats as adult horror films.

The Shining isn't really known for jump scares (minus one or two moments), it has atmosphere that really builds.

I personally recommend also, if the person is new to horror, for them to watch the horror with people who are more experienced with the genre and that they're also comfortable with. A person who can, if need be, break the tension a bit while they're watching the movie. Granted, not everyone wants this kind of interaction while viewing a movie, so make sure the friend actually wants this kind of interaction first.

It's also just helpful for a friend to bring you into the genre anyway since if the person in question is avoiding horror because of specific triggers, they can be warned about it. Like, I, for example, can't handle rape scenes or scenes where teeth are being ripped out, so while I love horror, I still get warnings from friends about that sort of thing. And if we're watching a horror movie together, especially one that one of us has seen before, we can tell each other when to look away if the movie is otherwise good, but just has that one scene that can be mostly avoided.

As someone from a religious background but loves horror, I appreciate the inclusion of high-brow horror. A lot of my friends are put off by nudity but are horror-curious. This will give them a starting point. Thanks!
