The reason youtube comments seem so dead is probably threefold:
1. Yes, dead internet theory applies.
2. Youtube has an older demographic.
3. The youtube comment section algorithm boosts terrible comments.

I just treat shorts like normal videos, if i’m looking for something to watch and one seems interesting, i’ll watch and be done with it. I can’t imagine just scrolling for an hour through any shorts platform
