Didn't have this set but I did have one with a flying helicopter and working rocket launcher in the 1960's 🤓💙. Stay safe 💙

This was so wholesome from Hornby and I remember wishing them well for its success and appeal.

Man, I got this set when I was about 10, and I was so over the moon about it, it was the coolest thing to me as a kid (still pretty cool in general lol)

I remember this set and the two sets brought out in the 1990's Dino Safari and the other military based layout that came with a class 08 and a few wagons with accessories and a compound siding area.

Another interesting set in question is the My First hornby set which was also featured as a Thomas set. Great thing about this layout was it had its own carry case box and some sets were remote controlled a bit like the Playtrains sets

I actually bought this set and still have some of the tanks.

Most random set I can think of, would be one I gave to my nephews fairly recently.
And that would be the Dino Safari set.

I got this set! I tend to use it as a test track to run in my new locomotives.

I have that 0-4-0 tank engine, specifically “Hogarth Stone, ” which me and my grandpa recently repainted into a lime green livery

I reckon Hornby could’ve done something similar with this set by recycling all the accessories if the cancelled Thomas the tank engine film “The Adventures of Thomas” still went ahead in production. Which by the way it was going be set in WWll and from looking at the teaser poster - the engines designs were going to be based on the Hornby models from the successful Thomas range.

Seemed like a perfect opportunity for a “Hornby crossover” set- instead of those cheap tanks include 1/76 scale Airfix vehicle kits and figures, along with a selection of humbrol paints. That way you could have better detailed models and encourage newer modellers to practice their skills....

Would it work out or make commercial sense? I don’t know.

Would I buy

Yes

(Whispers: military themed train, raf personnel, airfield control tower, an aircraft of some kind and some bomb resupply set- train could be delivering the munitions to the airfield....)

Of course there was no mat...it might fall into enemy hands!

I thought one of Hornby’s most unusual train set was the DINO SAFARI train set.

with the inclusion of the DINO SAFARI class 08 two lowmac’s, dinosaurs, Dino safari base and special Life-Likes trains POWER-LOC HO-OO track with the dinosaurs theme TRAKMAT from I think around the 90s.

0:32 Hardly "one of a kind", Hornby. It closely resembles the Battle Zone train set, released in 2000. Instead of a Class D Industrial, Battle Zone had a Class 8, snap-fit track, a fortress, and a track mat. The only extra this set has that the Battle Zone train set doesn't is the Ventilated Van.
