Crashed my drone many times like Im sure the rest of us have, but a major crash FUBARed my original gimbal. I could find forum after forum about how to use gimbals and Storm32 boards and such. But never a video. And here I am, watching yours, and you went over everything we needed. No crazy wiring, and you even included all the links to the needed parts. Truly a hero we all need but don't deserve.

After reviewing your video .. I purchased the a "IFLYRC CNC 2 Axis Brushless Gimbal +Controller for GoPro 3 Kamera DJI-Black" on ebay for $36.69.
It is a really nice gimbal setup and very pleased with it .. Getting ready to do the rest of the hook up this weekend ... The card looks like yours so I am pleased with the design of the product .. Will give you an update when I have it setup .. Again! Thanks for your video for my 3DR Solo.

When you spoke about adding weight for the camera on the black solo, you said adding pennies. What about using stick on wheel weights that are used for wheel balancing? They are small and rectangle shaped. And may look better. Just a thought. Thank you for your channel. Got my first drone a week ago and have had so much fun sharing videos and pics with friends and family.

Jow Worship, i removed the whole accessory bay module from the solo after wires come off both sides of the main circuit board. That cant be causing any problem right? Thnx bro!

Hey buddy great info by all of u guys...one question is there left and right controls with this gimbal?? Or just tilt up and down. And what software would u recommend 4 this gimbal? I ordered the exact gimbal provided in your link. And i saw a video of a guy tuning a Bgc 2.2 2 axis gimbal not sure if i said the name of the type of gimbal but u know what i mean. Its was easy and he said the changes he made threw the software made the gimbal work awesome. U might want to look into this i believe its the software needed to tune this gimbal. Thanks again and please let me know about this stuff i just asked.

I have all these components minus the ribbon cable laying around already, and another lightweight black gimbal on the way, had plans to install one of these cheap ebay gimbals on my solo as the genuine ones are ridiculously priced, good video very helpful on the process Dan 👍

If you have the latest version of open solo the parameter line has changed. You will be looking for "servo6_function" and changing that to rc_passthru.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that would work using mission planner to I think. The backend of all of these apps is based on the mission planner or mavlink communication protocol. My experience is more diy using the pixhawk but the solo has a pixhawk 2 afaik

I did a similar mod, using the Iris + gimbal, which I have a couple of, , , but being that the solo range kinda sucks, , I just used a transmitter and a a receiver diversity screen and problem solved for range, , , good info though, , however I think thats a lot of work considering you can buy a quad copter like the Yuneec Q500 with an outstanding gimbal and camera for about 300 bucks wihich is about the price of the solo factory but I suppose if you have a solo and like to tinker its a good idea, now will that work with autonomous flying when you program a way point etc to have the camera move to the object?
