Many moons ago, like maybe 60 years, when I was still engaged in doing electronic things, the hot amp was a Wurlitzer from an old juke box. The only problem with them, they needed a preamp added. Usually built in the shop, but most often including an AGC circuit, (automatic gain control) to keep out the sounds that now seem to be preferred. Overdrive sounded like shit then, it still does.
